Chesapeake police have identified the victim of a fatal accident that took place at the intersection of Peppercorn Drive and Taylor Road Wednesday afternoon.

Raymond Balser Jr., 67, of Elkton, died in the crash, Officer Leo Kosinski said.

The accident took place at 2:26 p.m. Preliminary investigation shows Balser’s Honda SUV was traveling eastbound on Taylor Road, and the school bus was making a left turn onto Taylor Road from Peppercorn Drive when the SUV ran into the driver’s side of the school bus.

The driver of the SUV was killed on impact, according to Kosinski. Based on witness statements, it is believed the SUV’s speed played a role in the crash, he added.

Students on the bus are being evaluated by medical personnel at the scene.

Taylor Road is currently shut down between Bangor Drive and Dunedin Drive.
