James E. Powell Sr., 81, of 2537 Woodland Trail, Suffolk, died Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013.  He was the son of the late Joseph Arrington and Effie Powell. He was preceded in death by his wife, Vernell A. Powell, and son, Tyrone M. Powell Sr.

He is survived by his wife, Grace Powell; along with children, James Powell Jr. (Karen), of Suffolk, Ronald Powell (Amy), of Mililani, Hawaii, Gisela Smith (Keith), of Suffolk; and Terrence Powell Sr. (Karen), of Waldorf, Md. He also leaves a mother-in-law, sisters-in-law, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

A celebration of his life visitation and wake will be held on Thursday, Oct. 10, 2013, at 7 p.m. Interment will be at the Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery on Friday at noon.
