The Lakeland High School girls’ volleyball team defeated visiting I.C. Norcom High School on Monday 25-7, 25-11, 25-13, for its first win in the last two seasons.
The Lady Cavaliers went 0-20 last season, and had started this year 0-3, but they had plenty of players helping to break the losing streak Monday evening.
Kristen Walden registered eight aces in the first two games, while D’Jannay Patterson, Kelsey Vasser and Khadijah Clouden also made significant contributions.
Sarah Bowyer played a key role with strategic placements of the ball to score several times in each set.
Lakeland (1-3, 0-0) visited Nansemond River High School on Tuesday evening.
