The Nansemond-Suffolk Academy girls’ volleyball team distinguished itself this past weekend at the 2013 Endless Summer High School Tournament in Virginia Beach. The event involved top teams in the area, both public and private, and the Lady Saints were the only private school team to emerge undefeated from pool play.
“It was a great weekend for us, and we were finally able to prove that we can hang with the top public schools in the area,” NSA head coach Robyn Ross stated.
NSA defeated Mussellmen High School 25-22, 25-21, took down Ocean Lakes High School 21-25, 25-22, 16-14, and then beat Western Branch High School 25-19, 25-16.
The Lady Saints’ losses came to Jamestown High School, 21-25, 25-13, 12-15, and Colonial Forge High School, 18-25, 25-19, 11-15.
The tourney’s Red Division included NSA and the top teams in the area, and NSA senior outside hitter Kaylor Nash was named to the Red Division All-Tournament Team. Over the five matches, she accrued 53 kills, 11 aces and 64 digs.
Junior middle blocker Caylin Harris had 33 kills, 10 blocks and four aces and junior setter Brooks Gillerlain registered 109 assists, 26 digs and four aces.
