Suffolk Center plans seventh Art d’Vine
“Dressed-up denim” is the only attire requirement for the seventh annual Art d’Vine fundraiser at the Suffolk Center for Cultural Arts later this month.
The “Jazz and Jeans New Orleans Style” event will take place Sept. 27 at the center, 110 W. Finney Ave. It is a fundraiser for the center’s foundation.
The event will feature live jazz by the Jimmy Masters Trio, New Orleans and Southern-style food and wine pairings, and silent and live auctions.
“People should come because it’s for a good cause,” said Sharyn Flintoff, president of the foundation board. “I think we contribute to the well-being of the citizens of Suffolk. If you feel strongly about the city and about living here, this is something you should support.”
Flintoff said the fundraiser — the only major one of the year for the foundation — supports all of the center’s offerings, including art events, gallery exhibits, classes and programming for youngsters.
“We support the economics of the city, and we provide for art events that are otherwise not available,” Flintoff said. “We provide lots of programming for the school systems for children who otherwise wouldn’t have the opportunity to go to a theater and see a live performance. All of our programming is geared directly into their (Standards of Learning).”
Auction items include furniture, art, parties, beach cottages and more.
“We have a nice variety of auction items,” Flintoff said.
Other alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages will also be served, in addition to wine
Flintoff added that nobody should stay away because they feel like they don’t have anything to wear.
“I think it’s really important people understand it’s an informal affair,” she said.
She added the event is a great thing to do right here in Suffolk.
“You can have a good time and still stay in Suffolk,” she said. “You don’t have to drive out of town to find something fun to do. It’s right here under your nose.”
Tickets to the event, which begins at 7 p.m., are $55 for Suffolk Center members or $60 for non-members. To purchase tickets or for more information, visit www.suffolkcenter.org or call 923-0003.
