Lifestyle Expo coming this month

Suffolk residents will have a chance to discover the many types of services, programs and non-profit organizations that are available in the community at an event later this month.

The Suffolk Lifestyle Expo will be held Sept. 21 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn, 100 E. Constance Road.

“This really has been a cooperative effort from all of these businesses,” said Susan Stone of Lake Prince Woods, one of the sponsors and the event’s chief organizer. “We thought it would be great to have some kind of an event to showcase what Suffolk has to offer.”

The event will feature a wide variety of exhibitors, as well as special programs and demonstrations — from product vendors, banks and physicians to chair massages, Zumba demonstrations and a talk on the market’s hottest jobs.

“Suffolk has a wealth of businesses, health providers, and other resources people may not be aware of,” noted Harry Cross of Cross Realty, another of the sponsors. “We thought it was important for Cross Realty to sponsor this event so we could help showcase what a diversity of opportunities are close to home.”

Door prizes will be offered, and children’s activities will take place from 10 a.m. to noon. Organizers also hope to catch folks coming from the Walk to End Alzheimer’s being held at Constant’s Wharf that morning.

“Home Instead is just excited to be partnered with so many good organizations in the community,” said Deneen Evans with Home Instead Senior Care, another sponsor.

The businesses involved are small businesses that are taking the opportunity to find new customers, Stone said.

“With their limited marketing budgets, they can’t really promote themselves to the degree they would like,” Stone said.

Other sponsors include BB&T, the Hilton Garden In and the Suffolk News-Herald.

“We’re delighted to host this event, which will draw a large number of people to the downtown area for an event that’s both fun and informative,” said Brian Williams, general manager of the Hilton Garden Inn.
