Christine Ada Rodgers

Christine Ada Rodgers, affectionately known as “Tine” and “Mama Tine,” entered into eternal slumber on Sunday, June 9, 2013, while at Autumn Care Nursing Home of Suffolk. She was born on Dec. 29, 1929, to the late Francis Figgs in Suffolk.
Christine attended Booker T. Washington High School. She worked for Planters Peanuts and was the manager of Rodgers Grocery for more than 40 years.
She was a member of East End Baptist Church for more than 38 years, where she served diligently on the senior usher board and Sunday nursery.
Christine was preceded in death by her husband, Isaac Rodgers Jr.; her mother, Francis Figgs; grandmother, Katie Parker; and uncle, William Boone.
She is survived by her sons, Isaac Rodgers III, Johnny Rodgers (Ethel), Larry Veale (Denise); her daughters, Helen Haley (Joe), Gwendolyn Rodgers, Aletha Rodgers Ashby and Jacqueline Rodgers; brother-in-law, Jerry Rodgers; sisters-in-law; Sylvia Gwaltney (Clifton), Pearl Butts (Calvin) and Vivian Simpkins; 19 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; a devoted cousin/sister/friend, Evelyn Delois Simpson (Roger); and many cousins, family and friends.
Ms. Rodgers will be on view at the funeral home on Thursday from noon to 7 p.m. The family will receive guests at 306 S. Sixth St. at all other times. A celebration of life service will take place at East End Baptist Church on Friday at noon, and immediately following she will be laid to rest at Carver Memorial Cemetery.
