Ryanne Ross of Suffolk recently graduated with a degree in biology from St. Mary’s College of Maryland.
The ceremony, which took place on May 11, featured addresses from Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley and President Joseph Urgo, who told the 450 graduating seniors to “draw on the inspiration of creative endeavor, critical response, and innovative collaboration” in the next stage of their lives. Honorary degrees were conferred upon O’Malley as well as long-time college philanthropist Tom Waring. Student speeches were made by the Class of 2013 valedictorian and the St. Mary’s “quintessential student.”
St. Mary’s College of Maryland, designated the Maryland state honors college in 1992, is ranked one of the best public liberal arts schools in the nation by U.S. News & World Report. More than 2,000 students attend the college, nestled on the St. Mary’s River in Southern Maryland.
