Elbert R. Williams, 76, of 828 Kilby Ave., Suffolk, died Saturday, May 18, 2013, at Sentara Obici Hospital.
He was a native of Nansemond County and the son of the late Matthew Williams and Ruth Outland Williams. He was preceded in death by his wife, Florence C. Copeland; daughter, Charlene Williams; son, Dwight Williams; sister, Betty Williams; three brothers, Roosevelt, Columbus and Ernest Williams.
After retiring from the Electric Cooker, he owned and operated Rudy’s House of Flowers. He was a member of Gethsemane Baptist Church, where he was in the men’s chorus. He was a member of the Saratoga Male Chorus and he was a mason.
He leaves to cherish his memory two daughters, Almeta W. Morris (Edward), of Suffolk, and Annette Coppage, of Maryland; two sons, Elbert R. Williams Jr., of Suffolk, and Derrick Thomas, of Portsmouth; two sisters, Mary N. Alston, of Suffolk, and Ruby Blizzard, of Portsmouth; 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; godchildren; sisters-in-law; brothers-in-law; aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 24, 2013, at Gethsemane Baptist Church officiated by the Rev. Ernest Simmons. Interment will be in Gethsemane Church Cemetery. The family will assemble at the residence at 10 a.m. for the procession to the church. Crocker Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
