Johnson named volunteer of the quarter

Army Reserve Maj. Valeria G. Johnson has been named Volunteer of the Quarter.
Selection was based on the individual’s exemplary duty performance, job knowledge, leadership qualities, teamwork, significant self-improvement, personal achievements, notable accomplishments and community service and support.
Johnson is a joint mobility operations officer assigned to the U.S. Transportation Command at Scott Air Force Base, Ill. The major has served in the military for 23 years. She is a resident of Shiloh, Ill.
She is the daughter of Ladaniel Boone of Newport News and the stepdaughter of Emily Davis of Portsmouth.
Her husband, Andre, is the son of Latoya Nesbit of Chesapeake and Sidney Johnson of Suffolk.
Johnson is a 1990 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School, Portsmouth, and received a Bachelor of Science in 1996 from Norfolk State University. She also earned a Master of Science in 2010 from Central Michigan University, Mount Pleasant, Mich.
