The Suffolk Democratic Committee will be cooperating with the Chesapeake, Norfolk and Virginia Beach Democratic committees to host a statewide candidate forum and straw poll early next month, just before the June 11 primary.

Two candidates each for lieutenant governor and attorney general will be in attendance to visit with voters, participate in a forum and answer questions from the audience.

“I think we have two great leaders vying for each of two very important nominations,” said Benjamin Goldberg, chairman of the Suffolk Democratic Committee. “I’m looking forward to seeing them all together.”

Aneesh Chopra and Ralph Northam are facing off in the primary for the privilege of running for lieutenant governor in the November general election. Justin Fairfax and Mark Herring are both running for attorney general.

The winners will join gubernatorial candidate Terry McAuliffe on the ticket for the state’s top elected positions.

The forum and straw poll will take place June 6 at 6 p.m. in the auditorium of the Meyera Oberndorf Central Library, 4100 Virginia Beach Blvd., Virginia Beach. The public may visit with candidates until 6:30, at which time the forum, moderated by Phillip J. Kellam, will begin. Written questions from the audience will be allowed after the forum as time permits.

Seating in the auditorium is on a first-come, first-served basis. RSVP at www.vbdemocrats.org to ensure you will have a seat.
