Golf tourneys set

Several upcoming golf tournaments in the area are open for registration and looking for participants.
The Suffolk Education Foundation’s 14th Annual Golf Tournament will take place at the Nansemond River Golf Club on April 26.
The tournament is one of the major ways that the non-profit foundation raises funds so that it can assist the 16,000 students and educators in Suffolk Public Schools through provision of scholarships, instructional grants and staff development.
The format for the tournament will feature four-person teams playing Florida Best Ball. There will be a helicopter golf ball drop at 11:30 a.m. Lunch, provided by Chick-fil-A, takes place at noon, followed by the shotgun start of the tourney.
A full dinner buffet in the clubhouse will be provided at 5 p.m., along with multiple prizes including those for the top team in each of three flights.
The price is $125 for an individual and sponsorship packages are available in amounts up to $5,000 with escalating benefits.

The Area 29 Suffolk Special Olympics Captain’s Choice Tournament will take place at the Sleepy Hole Golf Course on April 26.
All proceeds from the event will go to Area 29, the Suffolk chapter of Special Olympics.
The Captain’s Choice tourney will have a 1 p.m. shotgun start.
The cost for registration is $320 per foursome and includes 18 holes, range balls, a cart, dinner and a gift bag.
Sponsorship packages are also available.
Forms and money must be mailed no later than April 19 to 5145 North Harbor Road, Suffolk, VA 23435. Checks should be made payable to Special Olympics Area 29.

The fifth annual Virginia Legends Golf Tournament will take place at Sleepy Hole Golf Course on May 3.
The event is a fund-raiser for the Virginia Legends Fastpitch Softball teams, helping to provide materials such as off-season training equipment among other things.
The format will be four-person best ball and participants can choose either an 8 a.m. or 1 p.m. shotgun start.
The price of registration provides coverage for the green and cart fees, range balls, hot-catered lunch, plus two drinks of any kind.
There will be contests for the longest drive, closest to the pin and hole-in-one, a putting contest with a guaranteed cash winner and more.
Regular registration costs $400 for a foursome and runs from March 1 through April 27. The price for late registration moves up to $425 after April 28. To register online, visit www.valegendsgolftournament.com.

The 10th annual Paul D. Camp Community College Golf Tournament will be held at the Cypress Creek Golfers’ Club in Smithfield on Sept. 13.
The event is designed to raise funds for student scholarships and educational support.
The format will be four-person Captain’s Choice, and the tourney will have a 12:30 p.m. shotgun start. Dinner will be served around 5 p.m.
The cost is $75 per player, which includes the cart, dinner and more.
Cypress Creek Golfers’ Club Pro Shop Gift Certificates will be among the gifts offered, and there will be prizes for closest to the pin, longest drive and hole-in-one. The team to win the first flight will receive $300, the second flight winners receive $200 and the third flight winners get $100.
Sponsorship packages are available in amounts up to $5,000.
Registration is open now, and the field is limited to the first 144 paid players. Forms and money must be turned in by Aug. 23. Checks should be made payable to PDCCC Foundation and mailed with a registration form to Felicia Blow, PDCCC Foundation, 100 North College Drive, Franklin VA 23851.
