John Roland “Jack” Ellison III, 73, of Suffolk, passed away March 22, 2013.
He was the son of the late Julianne Butler Ellison and Dr. John Roland Ellison Jr. Jack was a graduate of Riverside Military Academy and Randolph Macon College. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Army. Jack retired as vice president of Suffolk Insurance Corp.
Jack was a member of Main St. United Methodist Church, Nansemond River Duck Club, Suffolk Elks Lodge 685, Suffolk American Legion Post 57, and the City of Suffolk Wetlands Board. He was also a former board member of Nansemond-Suffolk Academy. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Jack is survived by his wife of 51 years, Betty H. Ellison; daughter and son-in-law, Dr. Elizabeth Ellison Blangy and Patrick Blangy of Richmond; son, John Roland Ellison IV and friend, Jessica Durham of Suffolk; grandchildren, Michelle Hayes Ellison and Ellison Hayes Blangy; and sister and brother-in-law, Julianne Ellison Alderman and Dr. George Alderman of Baltimore.
A funeral will be held Monday, March 25, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Main Street United Methodist Church, 202 N. Main St., Suffolk, with the Rev. Myrtle F. Hatcher officiating. Burial will follow at Holly Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held Sunday afternoon from 2 to 4 p.m. at Parr Funeral Home and Crematory, 3515 Robs Drive.
