Isle of Wight Academy fell on the road to a versatile Amelia Academy squad, 67-49, Wednesday in a Virginia Independent School Athletic Association Division III Tournament quarterfinal.
The Chargers were lead by Nathan Sivertson with 20 points; teammate Austin Rogers had 13 points. The Patriots were lead by Otis Williams’ 18 points. Naanma Yamsat had 15 points, and Reid Jacoby had 12.
The Chargers quickly found themselves in a hole, trailing 24-12 after the first quarter. They climbed back into the game briefly on a three- pointer by Rogers with 2:28 left before halftime, which cut the lead to 6, 31-25.
But the Patriots then reeled off 18 of the next 21 points, leading into the third quarter, and the Chargers were never able to recover.
No. 2-seeded Amelia advances to play No. 3 Christ Chapel in a semifinal game at 1:45 p.m. Friday at Virginia State University. All four top-seeded teams in Division III advanced to the Final Four, which will crown a champion Saturday.
IWA finishes the season at 21-9; Amelia continues on with a 33-7 record.
