Isle of Wight escaped a first-half scrap with Denbigh Baptist Christian, but rode a strong finish to defeat the Minutemen 70-57 Tuesday night at Jester Gym.
Three Chargers — Alex Fronfelter (14), Justice Fuller (12) and Casey Williams (14) — scored career-high points during the game, and IWA outrebounded Denbigh 38-31.
The outcome was in doubt early as the Minutemen rode out to a 12-7 first-quarter lead. IWA coach Benjamin Vaughan pulled his starters to start the second team, and Fuller, Williams and Brandon Saxby responded in a big way with six points each before halftime.
The Chargers were tied at halftime, but the starters returned, including Fronfelter. He emerged from the locker room with the hot hand, scoring the half’s first seven points on two field goals and a three-pointer to give IWA a lead they never relinquished.
Denbigh was led by Sam Thomas with 19 points. Denbigh dropped to 1-4, 0-2 in the Metro Athletic Conference. IWA ran its record to 4-1, 2-1.
