Sewer repair to close Wilroy Road

The 800 block of Wilroy Road will be closed to through traffic from 9:30 a.m. Wednesday until Friday while Hampton Roads Sanitation District personnel coordinate an assessment for an emergency repair of a leaking sanitary sewer force main.

The damaged pipe was discovered Monday afternoon in a marshy area of Shingle Creek along Wilroy Road.

Workers have already taken steps to control the release of wastewater, according to a news release from HRSD. The repair will likely involving installing an alternate pipe around the damaged section while it is replaced.

Residents should avoid recreational activities on the waterway, according to the release. Odors should dissipate upon completion of the repair.

Access for residents in the area will be permitted. Detour signage will be in place directing travelers to use Nansemond Parkway, Progress Road, Suburban Drive and Route 58.
