Luther R. Weaver

SUFFOLK — Luther R. Weaver, affectionately known as “Big Luke,” 57, was called home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2012. He was born Aug. 8, 1955, in Greenwood, S.C., to the late Luther R. Weaver Sr. and the late Annie Mae Weaver.

He was educated in the Greenwood Public School System and Piedmont Technical College. Luther worked for the Norfolk Naval Shipyard as a welder for 26 years, where he was a work leader and supervisor assistant. He was faithful to the Lord and loved to witness to others in hope of winning souls to the kingdom. Luther was a wonderful and faithful husband and father and loved all children. His favorite pastime activities were playing horseshoes, riding horses and watching Pittsburgh Steelers in action.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 33 years, Maggie Singleton Weaver; a daughter, Dionne D. Weaver, of Virginia Beach; three sisters, Mary Jane Tucker, of Anderson, S.C., Thomasina Harris, of Washington, S.C., and Elizabeth Weaver Davis, of Greenwood, S.C. and a host of other relatives and friends.

Viewing will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 15, at J.T. Fisher Funeral Services, 1248 N. George Washington Highway, Chesapeake. A life celebration service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 16 at New Berean Baptist Church, 3600 Bamboo Road, Portsmouth, Va., with Pastor Leroy Ricks Sr. officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that friends donate a gift in the name of Luther R. Weaver to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the American Cancer Society.
