A severe thunderstorm warning has been canceled early after the storms moved out of the city.

The National Weather Service issued the warning at 5:06 p.m. for the northeastern portion of the city, as well as Isle of Wight County and other areas. It was supposed to be in effect until 6:30 p.m.

The storms were capable of producing damaging winds in excess of 60 miles per hour, according to the release. The storms moved across most of the northern half of the city.
