Mrs. Vashti Sawyer, educator in Nansemond County and Suffolk Public Schools, departed this life May 31, 2012. Final rites will be conducted at Laurel Hill United Church of Christ, 8001 S. Quay Road, Suffolk, Va., at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 6, 2012.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the NCTS Heritage Center Foundation, P.O. Box 4168, Suffolk, VA 23439. Viewing is at the church from 9 to 11 a.m. Professional services are entrusted to Peebles Funeral Home, Suffolk, Va.
