A Suffolk man was arrested Tuesday after police say he fled from arrest on cocaine charges.
Raymond Eley Jr., 38, was arrested on five counts of distribution of cocaine and one felony obstruction of justice warrant, which came as a result of Eley “recklessly fleeing while investigators attempted to take him into custody,” city spokeswoman Debbie George said.
Police investigators received information that Eley was at a gas station in the 600 block of East Washington Street, George said.
He was an occupant in a vehicle allegedly driven by Frank Eley Jr., 23, who now has warrants for felony eluding and driving with a suspended license, according to George.
Frank Eley’s vehicle nearly hit a police investigator as he allegedly fled through the parking lot of the gas station during the incident, George said.
The vehicle was later reported stolen by its owner after it was recovered abandoned, George said. Police also located narcotics in the vehicle, she added.
Frank Eley Jr. has not yet been apprehended, George said. Anyone who has information on his whereabouts is asked to call Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP. Callers to Crime Line never have to give their names or appear in court, and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
