IWA falls in Metro tourney

Given another chance, Isle of Wight Academy perhaps could solve the riddle that is Atlantic Shores’ Jordan Sergent.
The Seahawks’ pitcher continued his mastery of the Chargers, this time on a somewhat more limited basis, beating IWA 4-2 in the Metro Athletic Conference Tournament title game on Friday.
Sergent threw a complete game, allowing five hits and striking out 9. Earlier this year, he beat IWA 5-0 on April 30 and 10-1 on March 30.
Though the Seahawks scored a run in the first inning, IWA did a more effective job of holding their offense in check. The big blow came in the third when Shores’ Trey Celata cracked a single, driving in two teammates to make the score 4-0.
But IWA would not be shut out. Logan Wright brought Rainer Marfio home from second base with two outs in the fourth to make it 4-1. The Chargers came back the next inning, scoring another run on a solo homer by leadoff hitter Hunter Triplett, his second in two games.
They would have a runner in scoring position in the sixth inning, but left him stranded at second. Sergent also stranded a runner at first with two outs in the seventh.
