Published 9:29 pm Wednesday, April 25, 2012
Spaces are running out for Saturday’s canoe excursion on the Great Dismal Swamp’s Lake Drummond.
Liquid Lessons will conduct the trip in a “war canoe” that can accommodate up to 14 passengers simultaneously. Even if you’ve never canoed before, you need only a spirit of teamwork and a love of adventure.
The canoe excursion departs at 9 a.m. from the Suffolk Visitor Center, 524 N. Main St. Participants should bring a bag lunch, sunscreen, hats and insect repellant.
The fee is $35 per person and includes all equipment. Children 8 years and older are welcome with a parent or guardian.
Lake Drummond, the largest naturally occurring lake in Virginia, is a 3,108-acre bowl-shaped lake near the center of the great Dismal Swamp. It is only about six to seven feet deep.
The Great Dismal Swamp Canoe Excursion is produced by the Suffolk Division of Tourism in partnership with Liquid Lessons. For more information, visit www.Suffolk-Fun.com.
