Willie G. Hoggard

Mr. Willie G. Hoggard was born on Jan. 15, 1943, to Dorothy Hoggard and Willie L. Gay. He was a graduate of East Suffolk High School. After completing an apprentice program, he was employed by Norfolk Naval Supply Center. While employed at the base, he operated his own his own bus service transporting “Suffolkians” and North Carolinians to Norfolk and the surrounding areas to work.

Willie’s love for driving started his lifetime career of driving 18-wheeler trucks. He had a passion for driving because he loved to travel and to meet new people.

He was predeceased in death by his father, Willie L. Gay; his stepfather, George L. Bivins; and his brother, Fred Holland.

Willie leaves to cherish his memory, his beloved and devoted wife, Joyce A. Hoggard; one daughter, Rhonda Hoggard-Skinner (Larry Sr.); one son, Willie Junius Moore; one adopted daughter, Vaneasha; two grandchildren, Larry Darnell Skinner Jr. and Lamiah Amore’ Skinner; his mother, Dorothy M. Bivins, one uncle, William H. Goodman, one aunt, Helen Byrant; and many family and friends.

Mr. Hoggard’s visitation will take place at T.E. Cooke-Overton Funeral Home Inc. on Thursday, March 29 between the hours of noon and 7 p.m., and the family will receive guest at the funeral home between the hours of 4 and 7 p.m. A funeral service will take place at Faith Temple Ministries Church on Friday, March 30 at noon. Interment will immediately follow in the T.E. Cooke-Overton Garden of Carver Memorial Cemetery.
