Following a robbery last week at its South Church Street branch in Smithfield, Farmers Bank is offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the perpetrators.
The Smithfield Police Department is investigating a March 23 armed robbery at the branch that involved three unidentified suspects. The suspects — wearing masks, black hooded jackets, jeans and black gloves — entered the bank armed with handguns. One of the suspects wore a black and gold Pittsburgh Steelers ball cap.
Following the robbery, the three suspects drove away in a 2006 white Honda Accord, which was later abandoned. The vehicle had been reported stolen from the midtown area of Newport News on March 12.
Nobody was injured in the robbery.
“Our employees and customers are very important to us, and our goal is to protect them while either working or visiting Farmers Bank,” Farmers Bank president Dick Holland said. “Today, we are asking for the community to join the Smithfield Police Department in its efforts to apprehend the robbery suspects by providing information that will help in the investigation.”
Anyone with information regarding the robbery is asked to call the Smithfield Police Department at 357-3247.
