Nathaniel Shaw, of 1403 Sierra Drive, Suffolk, died Friday, March 23, 2012, at his residence. He was a native of Surry County and the son of the late Waverly O. Shaw and Rebecca V. Shaw.
He retired from Newport News Shipbuilding after 38 years. He was a member of New Mt. Joy Food For Living Ministries, where he was in the male chorus and senior choir and on the Deacon Board.
He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of 63 years, Dorothy Shaw; seven daughters, Maria Brickhouse, Teresa Alexander (Ronald), Gloria Shaw (Antione), Ann Minggia (Grady), all of Suffolk, Denise Eley (William), of Windsor, Rebecca Shaw, of Suffolk, and his adopted daughter, Rhonda Tucker, of Philadelphia; sisters, Lillian D. Rowe, of Hyattsville, Md., Lula Mae Shaw, of Surry, Jerlene Pierce (Walter), of Chesapeake, Va., Shirley Shands (Leroy), of Hopewell, Va.; brothers, Leroy Shaw, Horace Shaw (Irene), of Waverly, Va., Albert Shaw, of Surry, Va., James Shaw, of Dendron, Va., Clifford Shaw (Helen), of Spring Grove, Va; 16 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren; two aunts, Bernetha Williams, of New Jersey, and Frances Shaw, of Capital Heights, Md.; other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held at noon Friday, March 30, 2012, at New Mt. Joy Food for Living Ministries officiated by Overseer Viola Parker. Interment will be in Holmes Cemetery in Spring Grove, Va. A wake will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 29, 2012, at the funeral home. Crocker Funeral Home Inc. is handling the arrangements.
