Claretta Copeland Russell

Claretta Copeland Russell, of Chesapeake, Va., departed this earthly life on March 10, 2012, at the age of 66 years old.

Claretta was born in Suffolk, Va., to the late Woodrow W. Copeland and Doris Lucy Greene. She was also predeceased by her husband, Willie Russell. Claretta was an active member of Little Mt. Zion Baptist Church until her illness. Claretta served six years active service in the U.S. Army and 14 years in the Army Reserve. She completed her bachelor’s degree and had taken courses for her master’s degree. She also retired from the Social Security Administration in 2006 in Seattle, Wash.

Claretta leaves to cherish her memories, five sisters: Doris Betty Jean Baskerville, of Suffolk, Carolyn Bland, of Chesapeake, Va., Barbara Sutton, of Philadelphia, Pa., Stella Cook, of Butner, N.C., and Lucinda Virginia Copeland, of Chesapeake, Va.; one uncle, Roger Greene, of Detroit, Mich. She also will be missed by her nine nieces and nephews, her special friends, Harvey Whitney and Mary Skyes, and a host of other relatives and friends.

A funeral of triumph will be held at Harris Funeral Home on Friday, March 16, 2012, at 1 p.m. Burial will be in Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery. The family will assemble at the funeral home at 12:30 p.m. for the funeral service. Harris Funeral Home has been entrusted with the home going service.
