Police on Wednesday morning recovered a silver 2007 Nissan Maxima that had been stolen with a 9-month-old boy inside on Tuesday night.
Police responded at 8 p.m. to a 911 call reporting that the vehicle had been stolen from the 600 block of Third Avenue. The caller told police his son had been in the car at the time that it was taken, according to a city spokesperson.
A short time later, police were notified that someone had rung the doorbell of a home in the 600 block of First Avenue and left a child on the doorstep. The child appeared to have been unharmed, according to Suffolk spokeswoman Debbie George.
She said the father was dropping off items at the residence and when he turned around, the car was headed down the street.
The vehicle was located just before 9 a.m. Wednesday in a wooded area off Lake Cahoon Road. The vehicle was towed for processing by Suffolk police.
