Isle of Wight gets big win over Summit

Isle of Wight Academy bade an official farewell to its Class of 2012 with a rousing 69-31 Senior Night win over Summit Christian of Newport News at home Friday night.

All six Charger seniors scored, as did all the underclassmen save for one, as the team wrapped up its non-conference schedule and ran its record to 17-6. Summit fell to 15-6.

IWA’s Nathan Sivertson led all scorers with 14 points. Summit was paced by John David Sanderson with 10 points.

The two teams played a tight first quarter, which was won by IWA, 10-9. The Chargers then went on an 11-0 run to start the second quarter and continued the barrage after halftime, when they scored 16 of the half’s first 20 points. They outscored the Eagles 27-6 in the third quarter and cruised to the victory.

IWA finishes its regular season next week with a home game against Alliance Christian on Tuesday and at Hampton Christian Friday.
