SUFFOLK — On Jan. 28, 2012, Lorine Wilson Watkins, 72, transitioned to her eternal reward from Sentara Obici Hospital. Lorine, so fondly known as “Little Sis,” was born in Nansemond County, Suffolk, Va., on Feb. 5, 1939, the 15th of 17 children to the late John Wesley Wilson and Annie Davis Wilson.
Lorine was employed as a security specialist with the federal government and retired from the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Dam Neck, Virginia Beach, Va. She accepted the Lord in her life at a very young age and was baptized at Little Bethel Baptist Church, Suffolk, Va., where she was a lifelong member.
Lorine was preceded in death by her loving husband, Horace P. Watkins of 45 years; and six siblings, Harvey Wilson, Margaret Lyons, John Lee Wilson, Lennie Wilson, Ida Diggs and Calvin Wilson, all from Virginia. She leaves her legacy of love to her three loving children, Ronda D. Wilson, Sabrina M. Watkins-Rock (Kevin) and Donly Akiva Watkins; her six devoted brothers, David Wilson (Mary), and the Rev. Vernon Wilson Sr. (Virginia), of Suffolk, Lester Wilson (Ida) and Elbert Wilson, of Baltimore, Md., Arthur Wilson, of Bridgeport, Conn., and the Rev. Dr. Ollie Wilson Sr. (Irma), of Lynchburg, Va.; three loving sisters, Lucinda Johnson, of Baltimore, Md., Annie Jane Boothe and Bertha Mann, of Suffolk, Va.; three grandchildren, Gabrielle M. Wilson, Breyonna Rock and Chyna M. Rock; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, 2012, at Little Bethel Baptist Church, 6533 Everets Road, Suffolk, Va., with the Rev. Bernard Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in the Oakland Cemetery. Public viewing will be held Friday at Shivers Funeral Chapel, Smithfield, from 4 to 7 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Saturday. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. at the funeral chapel on Friday and at 5015 Westfalen Court, Suffolk, at other times. Shivers Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
