Suffolk mom joins Disney panel

Since her first visit with her parents when she was 5, Ashley Forster has loved all things Walt Disney World.
“I can still remember riding Dumbo for the first time and seeing (Cinderella) Castle for the first time, and knowing this is what I love,” she said. “I’m addicted to the magic.”
Forster has revisited Disney World during different periods in her life, but this month, she is taking her love for the theme parks to a whole new level.
For the next year, the Suffolk resident, who has an 18-month-old son and a 3-year-old daughter, will help people from all over the world plan their Disney trips as one of the newest members of the Walt Disney World Moms’ Panel.
“Our main job is to help guests plan their vacations,” she said. “Anything and everything you can think of — we can answer.”
Panelists — including men and women, despite the group’s name — can receive questions specifically for them or pick from a list of unanswered selections.
Forster is one of 15 new panelists, but there are a total of 42 people in the group.
Many of the members are “experts” in certain subjects. For example, Forster handles most questions from military families, because her husband is active-duty Coast Guard.
Forster applied for the 2012 Moms Panel in October, but this isn’t the first time she’s been through the process.
“I first applied in 2010,” she said. “I made it to the finals but didn’t get in.”
This time, Forster said, she was a little nervous, because she didn’t want to be disappointed again.
“When I didn’t make it last time, it was hard,” she said. “It was a test of nerves applying again.”
Her husband, Wes, encouraged her to take the plunge again.
“He told me, ‘You were made for this,’” Forster said. “He said they must have seen something in me for me to make it to the finals the last time.”
So Forster moved forward with the application process — first, she filled out an online application; then, she did another questionnaire and sent in a video about her favorite Disney memory; and finally, she had a phone interview.
In December, she received the phone call with the good news.
“I flipped out,” Forster said. “I think I scared (my son) with how I was jumping up and down and crying.”
Forster said she has followed the Moms’ Panel since its inception and has always wanted to be a part of it after years of planning trips for her family and those of her friends.
“I want to help people have the same great experience we have while we’re down there,” she said. “I just want to help as many people as I can.”
