Grand jury indicts 29

A man who police say fled from a traffic stop and later was involved in a wreck that killed his two passengers was indicted by the grand jury Wednesday.
Cornell A. Richardson, of Drewryville, faces charges on two counts of aggravated involuntary manslaughter and one count each of driving while intoxicated, driving too fast for conditions, eluding police, obstructing justice, driving without a license and speeding.
He was among 29 defendants indicted on 67 charges.
The accident occurred on July 9, according to a news release from shortly after the accident. A police officer stopped the 1992 Toyota in the 1500 block of Holland Road shortly before 1 a.m.
The driver initially stopped, according to the news release, but then took off westbound as the officer exited his vehicle.
The officer followed in the direction the vehicle fled and came upon debris in the roadway in the 6400 block of Holland Road. They found that the vehicle had left the roadway, struck a guardrail and then a tree. All three occupants were trapped in the vehicle.
Passenger Keiska Thornhill, 36, of Franklin, died at the scene. Another passenger, Laverne Samala Crowell, 36, of Newport News, succumbed to her injuries five days later.
