Saints sweep Winter Blast swimming

Two events: Nansemond-Suffolk sophomore Emily Neuburg was one of three Lady Saint swimmers to win two individual events as NSA topped Norfolk Collegiate and Greenbrier Christian in the Winter Blast at Virginia Wesleyan on Tuesday. Neuburg won the 200 individual medley and the 100 backstroke.

Both Nansemond-Suffolk swimming squads went 2-0, beating conference foes Norfolk Collegiate and Greenbrier Christian, in the Winter Blast at Virginia Wesleyan on Tuesday.

The Lady Saints (4-0) won the team tally with 501 points to 388 for Norfolk Collegiate and 255 for Greenbrier Christian.

Senior Gabrielle Bishop, senior Meredith Davis and sophomore Emily Neuburg won two races each to lead the Lady Saints.

Bishop, who committed to a swimming scholarship with Virginia Tech last month, won the 100-yard butterfly in 58.27 seconds and the 500 freestyle in 5:18.90.

Davis won the 50 free in 27.11 and the 100 free in 1:00.00. Neuburg won the 100 backstroke in 1:06.94 and the 200 individual medley in 2:26.18.

On the boys side, the Saints (3-1) won with 505 points. Norfolk Collegiate edged the Gators 355-350 for second.

Saint sophomore Greg Beale won the 50 free in 23.45 and the 200 free in 2:07.25. Sophomore Ben Wilson won the 200 individual medley in 2:15.18 and the 100 butterfly in 1:04.66. Senior Matt Lee won the 500 free in 5:56.90 and the 100 breaststroke in 1:08.18.

The Saints and Lady Saints won all six relay events.
