One of God’s angels came down from Heaven and granted Eleanor Spruell White eternal rest on Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2011, at her home.
Eleanor was born on Feb. 3, 1941, in Gates County, N.C. She was preceded in death by her parents, Junious and Alice Spruell; a sister, Mary White; two brothers, John White and Thomas Spruell.
She received her education and graduated from the Nansemond County Training School in Suffolk. Eleanor received a nursing degree, LPN, from Obici School of Nursing and retired from Autumn Care Nursing Home in Suffolk. Eleanor joined New First Baptist Pleasant Hill in 1972. She served on the Pastor’s Aide, Nurses Staff and the Friendship Usher Board. She was active in Sunday School and church activities. She was a faithful member until her death.
Eleanor was married to the late James Thomas White. She is survived by two sisters, Beulah Mae Johnson and Virginia Ralph (James), both of Suffolk; a brother, David Spruell (Vernell), of Brooklyn, N.Y.; a devoted niece, Alice Blowe (John); two special friends and caregivers, Deloris Freeman and Ed Vaughn; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, 2011, at New First Baptist Pleasant Hill Church, 1105 Hosier Road, Suffolk, officiated by the Rev. Lemuel Green. Interment will be in Carver Memorial Cemetery. A wake will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., Friday, Dec. 9, 2011, at Crocker Funeral Home.
