On Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 7, 2011, Mildred Mason Freeman departed this life to be with the Lord from Sentara Obici Hospital. She has resided at 314 St. James Ave. for more than 40 years. She was born in Southampton County, Va., on Nov. 23, 1923, to Lou Fannie and James P. Mason. She was retired from the Nansemond Credit Union as CEO for 30 years. Mildred was very active in her community, held offices on many committees for the city of Suffolk and was very active in the NAACP. Mildred was a member of East End Baptist Church for more than 60 years.

A eulogistic service will be held at East End Baptist Church in Suffolk, Va., on Saturday, Dec. 10, 2011, at 1:30 p.m. Dr. Mark Croston will officiate the service. Burial will be in Carver Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial donation to East End Baptist Church.
