A Suffolk Fire and Rescue battalion chief arrested on a charge of drunken driving the day after Thanksgiving no longer is employed with the city, a spokeswoman confirmed Wednesday.
Jack Charles Knight Jr. is charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, refusal to submit to a blood or breath test and reckless driving. He had been placed on administrative leave with pay pending the outcome of an internal investigation.
A Suffolk police officer observed a vehicle stopped at a traffic light on Holland Road on Nov. 25, city spokeswoman Debbie George said. The car remained stopped through two cycles of the light, so the officer approached the car.
He allegedly found Knight as the driver, George said. The officer allegedly observed the odor of alcohol about his person, she added.
The incident occurred in Knight’s personal vehicle while he was off duty, she said.
Knight is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 31.
