The Greater Chuckatuck Historical Foundation is one step closer to the premiere of its book on the history of the village.
This week, members of the foundation got their first look at the completed book after it returned from the printer.
“We’re excited about it,” said Conrad Haas, the co-chair of the foundation. “We think the publisher did a great job of putting it together.”
The book has been in the works for a little more than two years, and the historical foundation will hold a book release party Dec. 3 and 4 at the Chuckatuck Volunteer Fire Department.
“People are always asking when the book is coming out, and now, we can tell them,” Haas said.
The book contains more than 200 pages and features chapters on the area’s geography, scenery, historical events and other topics.
“There are a lot of nice photos,” Haas said. “I think it weaves a good story.”
It covers downtown Chuckatuck, Cherry Grove Road/Longview, Everets, Oakland, Reid’s Ferry and Sandy Bottom.
“It covers a good range,” Haas said. “It tells about some of the stores, the schools, different people and some events.”
Now that the books are back from the press, Haas said, the group is working on getting the DVDs added to them.
The group put together a DVD, featuring various interviews with people from Chuckatuck and additional photos that did not make the book, and is including it with the book.
“That is coming to a closure here, too,” Haas said.
He said the DVDs have been sent to a reproduction company, and they hope to get them back by the end of the month.
The book is still available for preorder for $35 until Dec. 1. After that day, the book will cost $40.
Order forms are available at the Suffolk Visitor Center and the Suffolk Seaboard Station Railroad Museum.
