The grand jury indicted 68 defendants on a total of 167 charges last week.

The defendants include one accused of child molestation, one accused of rape and one accused of shooting at his ex-girlfriend and her male friend.

Xavier Lamar Harris was arrested Aug. 7 after a woman reported a man she met at the community pool followed her home, forced his way into the residence and sexually assaulted her.

Harris was indicted on five charges, including rape and abduction.

In addition, John Walter Cobb was indicted on 13 charges related to alleged sexual conduct with a 13-year-old girl.

He also was arrested in early August. The alleged incidents reportedly happened between June and August.

The grand jury also indicted Roderick Lee Bellamy on charges that stem from an alleged incident in December 2010.

Police say the incident started on Myrick Street, when the victim stopped at Hoffler Apartments to pick up a female friend.

A vehicle then started following the couple, city spokeswoman Debbie George said at the time, and the driver fired several shots with a handgun at the first vehicle as they traveled down the road.

The first vehicle got away, but the victim soon heard more shots outside his home on North Fifth Street.

George said the woman in the car was the ex-girlfriend of the suspect.
