Scary moments in Suffolk this weekend

Halloween is just around the corner, and it’s showing all over Suffolk with fall-flavored events planned for this weekend.

  • The Suffolk Department of Parks and Recreation will host its Legends of Sleepy Hole Haunted Hayride from 7 to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday at Sleepy Hole Park, 4700 Sleepy Hole Road. Cost is $5 a hayride, and proceeds go to benefit the city’s United Way campaign. A Friendly Forest area for children under 10 will also be available. For more information, call 514-7268.
  • The Legends of Main Street: A Suffolk Ghost Walk will be held at 6 p.m. on Saturday, as well as on Nov. 5. On Nov. 19, the event begins at 5 p.m. The 90-minute walking tour will begin at the Suffolk Visitor Center, 524 N. Main St. It features downtown locations such as the old Gardner Store, the Prentis House, Riddick’s Folly and others. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for seniors. Reservations are required and can be made by calling 514-4130.
  • The North Suffolk Library, 2000 Bennett’s Creek Park Road, will host Pumpkin Palooza from 9 to 10:30 a.m. on Saturday. Bring a carved pumpkin and celebrate all things fall. Pumpkins will be judged children and adult categories. There will be Halloween storytime, a trick-or-treat costume parade and refreshments. For more information, call 514-7150.
  • Riddick’s Folly House Museum will celebrate Halloween with Readings from the Dark Side at 2 p.m. on Saturday. Reservations are required, and admission is two cans of nonperishable food.   • Suffolk Presbyterian Church, 410 N. Broad Street, will have its 4th annual Trunk or Treat event from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday. There will be games, activities and candy.
  • A haunted walk will be held at Davis Lakes Campground on Saturday beginning at 6:30 p.m. The cost is $5 a person, with children under 12 free. All children must be accompanied by an adult.
  • St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 140 Tynes St., will host Harvest Night from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Monday. There will be fun activities, chili dogs, chips and other refreshments. For more information, call 934-0830.
  • Community Harvest Outreach, 5C Roberts Ave. in Windsor, will host a Fun Fest from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday for children and their families. For more information, call 556-5403 or visit www.communityharvestoutreach.org.
  • Trick-or-treating will be held on Monday, ending at 8 p.m. It is against the law for anyone over the age of 12 to trick-or-treat in Suffolk.
