Astute Electronics announced Friday it will expand its Harbour View location and hire three new full-time employees.
The company, which deals in electronic component sales and distribution, will expand its current facility by 6,800 square feet. It opened the location on Champions Way in 2007.
“Even in tough economical times, Astute has enjoyed continuous growth, not only in turnover but within our customer base,” said Aran Coker, vice president of sales for Astute. “Our local workforce continues to grow, as does our reputation within the city. Astute has received great support since opening in 2007 from both the city of Suffolk and Hampton Roads Economic Development Alliance, without which our expansion would not have been achievable.”
The economic development group was pleased to hear of the expansion plans.
“We are delighted that Astute originally selected Suffolk for their first U.S. operation and that they will continue to grow and expand in our region,” said Robert Brown Sr., chairman of the Hampton Roads Economic Development Alliance.
The company’s range of products mostly includes semiconductor, connector, cable and passive products.
“We are excited to hear that Astute has kicked off this next phase of development by expanding their business within Suffolk,” said Mayor Linda T. Johnson. “This is a wonderful example of the great working relationship we have with our regional partners to build our business community.”
