A 54-year-old man was hit by a car on Nansemond Parkway Sunday morning after he exited his own car after narrowly avoiding a deer.
The man ran off the road while trying to dodge the deer, city spokeswoman Debbie George said. He flagged down a vehicle and was standing in the middle of the road talking to that driver when he was struck by another vehicle.
George said the man was wearing dark clothing.
He suffered head injuries and was taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. He was listed in critical condition Monday night.
