Quarterback Alex Kase connected with Brandon Roberts for one touchdown pass and Willie Gillus for another. The scoring strikes were two of three completions on the night for the Warriors.

Nansemond River’s defense held the Presidents to -18 rushing yards. Grassfield piled up 214 rushing yards and two rushing scores in a 23-12 win against Maury last Thursday, so the Grizzlies will be a tougher test to ace.

Grassfield also scored with a safety and an interception return for a touchdown against Commodores. The Grizzlies, 8-3 and a regional playoff team a season ago, tallied 15 first downs to Maury’s two.

Zach Super completed his first 13 passes and finished with 387 yards in his first game as Cavalier quarterback. Anaquan Peterson caught five passes for 122 yards. Raekwon Johnson rushed for two touchdowns and caught another. Deonte Demiel took a screen pass 87 yards for a touchdown. Every Lakeland back and receiver got into the action.

Lakeland’s defense was just as impressive, holding the Hornets to zero passing yards and 17 rushing yards while forcing two fumbles and an interception.

Hickory rallied from a 28-16 deficit in the last 10 minutes of regulation versus Norview to force overtime and win, holding the Pilots on fourth-and-goal at the 1 before getting a 23-yard field goal to decide OT. Norview posted 429 yards on offense against the Hawks.

King’s Fork drove down the field in the final 30 seconds ending with Matt Hommell passing to Joseph Hill for a 25-yard touchdown as the clock expired bringing the Bulldogs within 20-19. The Bulldogs went for two and the win only for the Braves to hold.

The Saints welcome a tough guest for Lew Johnston’s first home game as NSA’s head coach. The Seahorses handled the Saints, building a 16-0 halftime lead, last season in Saluda.

NSA broke out in front of First Flight last Friday on the Outer Banks. Ryan Serianni’s punt block and Ryan McClain’s recovery and touchdown led NSA to a 10-0 halftime lead before the Nighthawks scored 30 points in the second half for a 30-16 win.

NSA held First Flight to 1-for-10 passing for nine yards but allowed 246 rushing yards.

Christchurch led 33-0 at Covenant and went on to a 39-0 win last Friday in its opener.
