William Robertson Sr., 74, of the 2700 block of East Washington Street, Suffolk, Va., died Friday, Aug. 19, 2011, at Sentara Obici Hospital. He was a native of Nansemond County and the son of the late Luverta Robertson and Herman Robertson.
He was a 1955 graduate of East Suffolk High School and attended Virginia State College. He retired after 42 years at the United States Postal Service as a letter carrier, where he received special honors and postal awards. He was a member of Metropolitan Baptist Church. He also was secretary and a loan officer at the Metropolitan Federal Credit Union.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Jennie M. Robertson, of Suffolk; a daughter, Wanda Cross (Nathaniel), of Newport News; three sons, William Robertson Jr., of Louisville, Ky., Neal A. Robertson Sr. (Sharon), of Albany, Ga., and Jeffrey Robertson (Anita), of Berlin, Germany; four sisters, Fonsia Harvey, of Maryland, Mary Joe (James), of Hampton, Dorothy Greene and Jackie Graves, both of Suffolk; one brother, James Robertson (Catherine), of Suffolk; 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; and a host of nephews, nieces, and cousins.
A home going service will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2011, at Metropolitan Baptist Church, officiated by Dr. Robert Hobbs.
