The Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce is accepting nominations for its 2011 Marian P. Whitehurst Women in Leadership Award.

The award, created in 2009, is given to a woman who exemplifies professional excellence, is devoted to community service, and actively assists women in their professional development and leadership.

The award is named after Marian P. Whitehurst, who has been described as a visionary with quiet dignity and integrity. Whitehurst presided over Chesapeake City Council as mayor from 1972 to 1980.

Nominees must demonstrate excellence in their business or profession, devote time and energy to the community in a meaningful way and assist others in attaining their fullest potential. The nomination deadline is Aug. 31, 2011.
