Road work causes Godwin traffic

Godwin Boulevard travelers have run into increased traffic driving through Chuckatuck for about two weeks, and the traffic will not be letting up just yet, a city official said.
City spokesperson Debbie George said for about two weeks, the highway has been narrowed to one lane in the portion of the road that spans from King’s Highway to Oakland Christian Church for construction.
This construction is part of a project to install concrete curbs, gutters and sidewalks in Chuckatuck.
George said the project should be finished March or April 2012, but especially cold weather this winter could push the completion date back to May or June 2012.
George said once the curb and gutter work is finished, the sidewalks can be installed with less intrusion on the road.
“The impact to traffic will not last through the entire project schedule,” she said.
However, George said she did not have an exact date as to when the curb and gutter work would be finished.
The project was funded through the capital improvement program and has been in the planning stages for five years.
