Slow and easy today

Considering that it’s mid-July in southeastern Virginia, there should be little surprise that it has turned hot outside. The Tidewater region is almost famous for its hot, humid summers as it is for its oysters.
The next day or so, however, promises heat at a level that almost could cook those oysters on the half shell. It will be so hot today that…. Well, you can insert your own joke here. The point is, get ready for the hottest day of the year, with the possible exception of yesterday.
There are some important precautions to take on days like this: Stay inside as much as possible. Limit physical activity to the “cooler” parts of the day. Keep yourself hydrated. Check on neighbors and friends who are at greatest risk of heat-related health problems.
Generally speaking, if you’re spending time outside today, take things a bit slower than you normally might. Pace yourself and think of this as a practice run for August, when it’s going to get really hot.
