Pleasant Union Baptist Church, 215 Webb St., will celebrate the anniversary of First Lady, the Rev. Naomi P. Chambers, throughout the month of July, beginning this Sunday. The theme is “An Excellent Leader Carrying a Torch.”

Chambers has received many awards for her work and has been the director of the Virginia University of Lynchburg, Suffolk site since 1992.
Each Sunday in July at the 11 a.m. service, Chambers will be honored by ministries of the church. In addition to her husband, speakers at the services will include Eldress Miranda Turner, the Rev. Sheila Parker, the Rev. Gail Henderson and the Rev. Rose Cooper.
The anniversary celebration will end with a dinner at the Smithfield Station on July 31.
