A Good Samaritan was shot at on Saturday when he attempted to help a woman being attacked.
Alphonso Harris Jr., 31, of the 2500 block of East Washington Street, has been arrested in the shooting. He is charged with domestic assault, attempted malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, discharging a firearm in public and giving false information to police.
According to city spokeswoman Debbie George, Harris allegedly was assaulting a female in the parking lot of an apartment complex in the 2500 block of East Washington Street.
Another man saw the assault and attempted to pull the victim away, George said. Police say Harris then went inside, retrieved a gun, came out and fired at the Good Samaritan. He then allegedly threatened to kill him and fired at him again, George said.
Fortunately, the bullets did not hit any people or property and instead probably just went into the ground, George said.
Harris fled the scene in a vehicle but was stopped by police and placed under arrest. He also allegedly gave a false name to the police officer when he was first pulled over, George said.
