Elvie Lee “Jimmie Mac” Alston, 66, of 511 Ashley Ave., Suffolk, died Thursday, May 12, 2011 at Sentara Obici Hospital. Born May 4, 1945, a native of Nansemond County, he was the son of Rosa Lee Alston and the late Willie Q. Alston. He was preceded in death by his son, Sherwin O’ron Turner; brother, James Alston; and sister, Rosetta Alston. He was a member of Lakeview Missionary Baptist Church and a former employee of Birdsong Peanut Company and Ponds.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Virgie M. Alston; his mother, Rosa Lee Alston, of Suffolk; four daughters, Rose Byrd (Craig), of Chesapeake, Va., Angel Baker (Bobby), of Waldorf, Md., Diane Deloatch, of New York, Gwen Johnson, of Portsmouth, Va.; three sons, Elvis Lee Manley (Carol), of Suffolk, Jeffrey L. Manley (Latoya), of Newport News, Va., Dontay Holly, of New Jersey; 24 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, May 19, 2011, at Lakeview Missionary Baptist Church, officiated by the Rev. Dr. John E. Jones. Interment will be in Carver Memorial Cemetery.
