Margaret Wilkins Poarch, 85, passed away May 10, 2011, at Sentara Obici Hospital in Suffolk.
Born in Nansemond County, she was the daughter of the late William H. and Helen Wilkins. She was also predeceased by her granddaughter, Judith Margaret Peters; and her sister, Dorothy Howell. Mrs. Poarch was a member of First Baptist Church and the Eunice Sunday School Class. She was retired from Obici Hospital.
Survivors include her loving husband, Norborne Tucker “N.T.” Poarch, Jr.; daughter, Judy Poarch Peters and husband, Donald, of Greenville, N.C.; sons, N. Tucker Poarch III, of Greenville, N.C., William “Billy” Poarch, of Richmond, Va.; granddaughter, Bethany Dale Poarch; sisters, Elsie Hays, Louise Benton, Ann Wheeler, Audrey Robertson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Margaret’s family would like to thank N.T. for all the kindness, care, and love he has shown his loving wife for the past 63 years. N.T. and Margaret just celebrated their wedding anniversary on May 1, 2011.
Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, May 12, 2011 at 2 p.m. by her nephew, the Rev. Dr. Thurman R. Hayes Jr., of Norcross, Ga., in the R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home and Crematory, 509 W. Washington St., Suffolk, Va., with burial in Holly Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the funeral home Wednesday, May 11, 2011 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to First Baptist Church Building and Improvement Fund, 237 N.
