UVA-Wise senior outfielder Maddi Ridenour (Nansemond River) broke the school’s all-time hit record, eclipsing the old mark of 226 hits in a four-year softball career, during a doubleheader against Rio Grande University on April 14.
As UVA-Wise won 2-1 and 4-3, Ridenour totaled four hits in the two games, setting the new mark in the second game.
Ridenour’s been the leadoff hitter for the Lady Highland Cavaliers for four seasons and is a former NAIA First Team All-American.
Among a host of other impressive stats, for the season Ridenour’s hitting a team-high .403 with 39 runs and 29 stolen bases in 43 games. Ridenour’s made one error, for a .980 fielding percentage, as the Highland Cav centerfielder.
UVA-Wise has a six-game winning streak currently to improve to a 21-24 mark going into the Mid-South Conference Tournament April 28-30.
Texas Wesleyan freshman R’relle Duncan (Nansemond River) finished second in the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 19.15 seconds at the Red River Athletic Conference Championship in Fort Worth, Tex. on Saturday.
